Working Through the Mid-Year Fog in Business

I shared a bit of a vulnerable email newsletter earlier this week, all about a foggy season in business. It's not easy to talk about the harder seasons, but I wanted to share the email because I truly believe that when we normalise these conversations, we all feel waaaay less alone.

Now, I’m sharing the tips and insights in the newsletter in this blog post, to live in a forever space where these words are available to come back to.

About a month ago, I felt completely unclear & stuck in my business. And I’m not talking “hmmm… what should I post on Instagram this week”, I’m talking… throw in the towel and give up unclear.

I was still working on some beautiful client projects (the WORK wasn’t the problem), but I had lost all motivation to show up online. I was waking up without that fire to work on my own business, unsure of my direction, disconnected from my offers… the list goes on.

Have you been here and felt this before?

After chatting with other business owners and doing some (okay, a lot of) IG scrolling, I realised that this mid-year slump is actually pretty common, and dare-I-say.. normal?

So, after a little self reflection and wondering… ‘what on earth am I going to do with my life’, I paused. Then I began the slow journey of regaining clarity.

Here’s exactly what I did to start to feel back on track in my business:

  1. I rested my creative output. I took around a week off posting on social media (spoiler alert: my business didn’t burn to the ground from not posting… even though I thought it would).

  2. I stopped thinking about future plans, and instead, I poured all my energy into client work and gratitude.

  3. I tried to take the pressure off of myself. Every time I felt guilty for not showing up, I reminded myself: this rest is what creates space for clarity.

Once I felt ‘rested’, I started on some rituals to realign.

  1. I went through my Brand & Expand journal prompts - my free guide that helps you to dive into the heart & soul of your business. (If you haven’t downloaded it yet, you can grab it below ⬇️)

  2. I started romanticising little parts of my working day. Incense, coffee in a nice mug, taking myself to work from a cafe.

  3. I connected back with my WHY, and who I am here to support.

  4. I began putting more energy and intention into parts of my business that I really enjoy. Namely, Pinterest, learning, and writing/planning.

  5. I began slowly showing up on my Instagram stories. One story here, two stories there… slowly rebuilding confidence.

  6. I invested in a Business Strategy Session. Support is important.

And that brings us to today.

I’m feeling more aligned, grounded, and creatively inspired than I’ve felt in a long time. I know my WHY. I know who I’m here to help. And I know how I want to move forward.

If you’re in a foggy place right now, take this email as a sign that you aren’t alone. This is your reminder that these seasons pass, and clarity can be cultivated.
